The short answer

In HYROX race week, read the current official rulebook for your format and rehearse clean standards at low fatigue. Confirm your division, station order, loads, distances, permitted equipment, start procedure, and event-specific athlete information. Do not use the final week to learn standards through a full simulation.

The official Singles Rulebook retrieved on 26 July 2026 labels itself for the 2026/27 season and describes eight approximately 1 km runs alternating with eight workout stations.1 Organizer-controlled facts can change. This checklist summarizes the current document; the official rulebook and race-day judges remain the authority.

Confirm the correct document

HYROX publishes separate rulebooks for Singles, Doubles, Relay, Adaptive, and Youngstars formats.1 Start by matching:

  • registered format;
  • registered division;
  • sex and age-group category used by the event;
  • event city and date;
  • the rulebook version currently linked by HYROX;
  • any event-specific athlete guide or email.

Do not train from a screenshot that lacks the season and format. A correct Singles standard can still be wrong for a Doubles or Adaptive entry.

Write the race order from memory

The Singles document lists:

  1. 1 km run, then 1,000 m SkiErg;
  2. 1 km run, then 50 m sled push;
  3. 1 km run, then 50 m sled pull;
  4. 1 km run, then 80 m burpee broad jumps;
  5. 1 km run, then 1,000 m row;
  6. 1 km run, then 200 m farmers carry;
  7. 1 km run, then 100 m sandbag lunges;
  8. 1 km run, then 100 wall balls.2

The rulebook makes racers responsible for completing runs and stations in order, using assigned lanes and equipment, and making the required standards clear to judges.2 In the final rehearsal, say the next station aloud after each easy run segment.

Use the station audit

StationRace-week standard to rehearseWhat not to chase
SkiErgfeet remain on the base as required; complete the monitor distance; wait for confirmationmaximal damper experiment
Sled pushcorrect assigned lane and division load; sled fully crosses each linea personal-best split
Sled pullcorrect lane and load; remain standing; keep rope controlled; sled crosses each lineuntested shoes or gloves
Burpee broad jumpbegin behind the line; chest clearly contacts; complete the required travelthe longest possible jump
Rowcorrect monitor distance; remain seated until completion is confirmeda new stroke-rate target
Farmers carrycorrect weight; both bells carried; controlled legal rest; return equipment correctlygrip failure practice
Sandbag lungescorrect load and legal position; clear knee contact and full finish positionhigh-volume soreness
Wall ballscorrect ball and target; start tall; squat below the required depth; wait for valid countan all-out unbroken set

This table is deliberately incomplete. Read the diagrams, detailed clauses, penalty protocol, and division table in the official PDF.2

Rehearse visibility, not ambiguity

A valid rep should be easy for a judge to recognize. In a short, low-fatigue rehearsal:

  • use the full movement range;
  • pause briefly at positions that are often unclear;
  • have a partner call "valid" or "no rep";
  • stop the set when form changes;
  • record which cue fixed the problem.

The goal is not to discover how little movement will pass. It is to remove doubt while tired.

Check loads without hard-coding them into memory

The current rulebook contains division-specific sled, kettlebell, sandbag, wall-ball, and target-height tables.2 Copy the row for your registered division into the race note and verify it against the live official PDF again before travel.

Do not assume:

  • Open and Pro loads are interchangeable;
  • equipment color is identical in every training facility;
  • an old social post reflects the current season;
  • a local sled feels like the race surface;
  • a personal adaptation is automatically competition-valid.

Contact HYROX in advance when an injury, disability, or medical device requires clarification or a modification.

Race-week equipment check

The current Singles rulebook requires closed-toe shoes during the race, with a specific exception at the wall-ball station, and lists permitted and prohibited accessories.2 Confirm:

  • shoes already tested for running and sled work;
  • any permitted sleeves, gloves, belt, wristbands, or hydration pack;
  • whether the item must be carried from start to finish;
  • timing-chip placement;
  • the warm-up and start-tunnel schedule;
  • prohibited electronics or recording equipment.

Do not add an accessory because someone used it in an older video.

Use one short rehearsal

Three to five days before the race, when consistent with the plan:

  1. warm up normally;
  2. complete one or two easy run-to-station transitions;
  3. perform a few clean repetitions at selected technical stations;
  4. practise entering, setting up, receiving confirmation, and exiting;
  5. stop with substantial repetitions in reserve.

This is a standards rehearsal, not a fitness test.

The first HYROX physiology study included only eleven recreational athletes, so it cannot prescribe a universal race-week session. It did show sustained high demand and high effort in its simulated event.3 A 2026 benchmark study drew on a much larger result set but remains descriptive rather than a readiness test.4

Protect running and station pacing

Hybrid competition research is still developing.5 A controlled-pacing study in a different functional-fitness workout found better later-round output after a controlled opening than an all-out start, but it does not directly prove one HYROX strategy.6 Use the practical lesson cautiously: do not spend race-week confidence by racing the first rehearsal.

Use the HYROX time predictor with compromised-run and valid-station splits, not fresh bests. The sled pacing guide can isolate the station that most often creates last-minute doubt.

Race-day card

  • Format and division: ___
  • Official rulebook version checked: ___
  • Start time and assembly time: ___
  • Station order recalled without prompt: yes / no
  • Division loads copied from official table: yes / no
  • One movement cue per station: ___
  • Permitted equipment confirmed: yes / no
  • Opening-run effort cap: ___
  • Judge instruction rule: listen, clarify, comply

Stop rules

Race rules do not override health. Stop and seek event medical support for chest pain, fainting, confusion, severe breathing difficulty, acute injury, or symptoms that feel dangerous. If pain changes movement, do not use a legal-rep checklist to force the station.

26weeks.ai can adapt the HYROX build around completed running and strength work while preserving race-week recovery. Start training now.
