Edinburgh Sunset: six marathon laps and two start options in the last edition
The six-hour ultra is a separate entry from the individual marathon. Choose the fixed marathon category if that is your goal, and follow its lap-counting instructions. A timed-event result records the distance completed within its rules and is not automatically the same as a measured marathon finish.
The early-start option in the old programme was intended for a particular expected finish range. Confirm that it returns and that you are assigned to it before arranging race-day travel. Do not assume that any runner can begin at either time or that the ultra’s closing time applies to all categories.
The seaside location can be exposed even without hills. Practice holding a controlled effort when the wind changes and use the race-week forecast when selecting clothing. Repeated laps make it possible to recognize the same support points, but they also require attention to timing mats and the correct turnaround on every circuit.
The 2026 programme listed water twice per lap and separate chip-collection windows at Cramond Kirk Hall and the promenade near the Boardwalk Café. A future edition may alter those arrangements, so save the current collection address and deadline rather than relying on a previous race email. Decide in advance how companions will identify your final lap and where they should meet you without blocking the shared path. Test familiar food and carrying equipment before the event, and verify the rules for any personal supplies. The organizer describes the course as measured and licensed; if qualification is your goal, check the current certificate and receiving-race requirements for the exact edition. The completed June date and its afternoon timetable should remain historical until a new announcement confirms the next race.
