Thames Meander Spring: two returns from Barnes to Petersham
The spring event is one of three Thames Meander dates on the organizer’s page. Make sure the entry confirmation says March rather than the August or October edition. Check the final briefing for the spring race’s access and collection details, since a series page can also retain information for another seasonal event.
The full-distance route continues to the Petersham turnaround, returns to Barnes and repeats. The 10K turns earlier near Kew, while half-marathon runners finish after one longer out-and-back. Learn the signs for your distance and count both full loops; following a nearby runner could send you to an early turnaround or finish.
The organizer describes the river route as flat and runnable, but it remains a Thames Path trail race. Choose footwear for the surface and current conditions, leave room for people travelling in the opposite direction, and turn under control at checkpoints. A flat elevation profile does not remove the need to manage crowded or wet sections carefully.
Use the return to Barnes as a practical point to assess effort and supplies before the second loop. Plan nutrition around the published checkpoints and carry what you have practised using. Give supporters the actual park start and finish rather than only the sports-club address. Before race week, save the current map and check the time limit, bag arrangements and any path-access changes so the final plan matches the March edition.
