Slaithwaite canal locks and two different arrival points
The many canal locks make this a poor place to assume every kilometre is flat. Assess the route direction and turning points, then let effort respond to the short changes in gradient. The mention of Tunnel End describes the route’s landmark; it is not an instruction to run through the canal tunnel.
The community centre is the collection, toilet and bag-drop location, while the running starts beside the canal outside Waves. Plan enough time for both places and follow the marshals’ directions between them. The current page lists registration from 07:30 and a marathon start at 08:30; reconfirm those times for the edition you enter rather than treating an undated listing as a future schedule.
Parking by the start is limited. Check town parking restrictions or the rail timetable before deciding how to arrive, and leave a realistic walk between parking, the hall and the canal. If spectators meet you after the race, agree whether that means the waterside finish or the community centre so you do not search for one another at different locations.
The organizer normally provides feeds about every three miles and asks runners to bring a reusable cup or bottle. Practise using that vessel and carry familiar supplies between stations. Read the final cutoff and route instructions before committing to the distance. If you need to stop, notify the nearest marshal; leaving the route silently makes it harder for staff to account for you. At any unmarshalled road crossing, wait until it is safe rather than assuming the race closes the road.
