The race at a glance

Route and elevation

Primiero’s 42K course starts at Villa Welsperg in Val Canali and finishes in central Fiera di Primiero. The organizer publishes 1,242 m of ascent and 1,543 m of descent, with Lago di Calaita the highest point of the route.

  • The homepage announces July 3, 2027; confirm the 42K start schedule in the final rules.
  • The course mixes roads, forest tracks and trails through the Dolomites.
  • San Martino di Castrozza, Lago di Calaita and Passo Gobbera are route landmarks.

Race guide

Climb to Lago di Calaita, then manage the long descent

The official 42K description separates this race from the event’s shorter distances. Its climbing and descending totals make average road-marathon pace a poor starting assumption. Build an elapsed-time plan around terrain and the final checkpoints, including aid stops and any purposeful uphill hiking.

After Villa Welsperg, the route reaches Piereni and woodland sections before progressing toward San Martino di Castrozza. Forest roads then lead toward Lago di Calaita. Prepare for changes in gradient and surface rather than one continuous, uniform climb. Practise fueling when the terrain interrupts your preferred rhythm.

The published descent total exceeds the ascent, but that does not make the event easy. The later route follows the Lozen valley toward Passo Gobbera and descends gradually toward Fiera di Primiero above Imer and Mezzano. Add downhill tolerance gradually in training and avoid spending your legs on the first runnable descent.

The start and finish are different places. Resolve the edition-specific start transport and bag arrangements before deciding where to stay or meet supporters. July 3, 2027 appears on the current event homepage, while the final 42K schedule and any course changes should be checked against the new rules and participant guide before travel.

Next edition awaiting confirmation

An exact next-edition date is not confirmed here. A previous race month does not establish a future event. Wait for the organizer’s announcement before setting a taper or booking race-specific travel. Check that the announcement names your distance: an event weekend, registration opening or shorter race can appear before the full programme. Save your entry confirmation separately from a provisional travel plan, and compare an announced alternative if you need a fixed date. Keep the route details below in their stated edition context until the new participant guide is available.

FAQs

When is this race in 2027?

The exact next-edition date remains unconfirmed. Use the organizer’s announcement before planning race-specific travel or a taper.

Can I use the previous race date to plan the next edition?

No. A recurring race can change its day, venue or available distances, and a previous race month does not confirm that the event will return. Wait for the organizer to identify the next edition and your distance before booking race-specific travel, arranging leave or calculating a taper. In the meantime, keep training based on the work you can currently repeat.

Can I use the previous edition’s date for travel planning?

No. The next edition can move or be discontinued. Use an exact date announced by the organizer for this race and distance before booking non-refundable travel.

How should athletes train while the race date is pending?

Build repeatable general marathon training, then anchor the specific block after an exact date is published.

How many weeks until this race 2027?

The next exact race date is not confirmed in this guide. Check the linked organizer page before anchoring a countdown, taper or travel booking.
