The September 4 gravel-road marathon in Patagonia
The festival spans two days, so choose the 42K entry and its own start location when planning transport. The organizer says different distances have different starts and requires runners to reach theirs an hour before the race. Confirm the official bus arrangements or permitted private transport instead of assuming the nearest accommodation is close to your start.
Gravel, hills and exposed Patagonian surroundings make effort and footing more useful than a rigid road-marathon pace. Review the current elevation profile and practise on representative surfaces. Bring clothing options suitable for the actual forecast, then follow the final equipment guidance rather than treating photographs of a clear day as a weather prediction.
The event operates without disposable plastic drinking cups. Rehearse using the reusable cup, bottle or hydration system you intend to carry, including refilling it at support points. The rules require the bib and timing chip throughout the race and permit poles only when carried for the whole event; check their handling instructions before deciding to use them.
The seven-hour overall limit is accompanied by intermediate time gates in the official schedule. Check each gate against your expected progress and support stops before entering. Collection in Puerto Natales is separate from start access, while a labelled finish bag can be handed over under the event’s baggage rules. Keep the current schedule, map and transport confirmation together, and follow organizer withdrawal instructions if you cannot continue.
