The Orange Trail through Mljet National Park
The route description runs from Pomena toward Polača, passes the Roman Palace and climbs into forest before joining paths around the national park’s lakes. It also includes Soline and a ridge section. Prepare for sustained trail effort and climbing rather than applying a road-marathon pace calculation to the same approximate distance.
The previous aid plan had substantial gaps, including between the 16 km and 25 km stations. Use the next edition’s confirmed distances and expected time between them to decide what to carry. Do not assume a short kilometre gap will be quick on trail, and practise accessing food and fluids without needing to stop for every item.
The older entry package included park access for the participant and a boat trip to St. Mary’s island. That is separate from getting yourself to Mljet and reaching Pomena for the start. Check ferry or other travel connections, accommodation and collection timing before committing, and confirm whether companions require their own park tickets.
The 2026 Orange Trail started at 07:00 and used a ten-hour limit, but those are historical instructions until the organizer publishes the next race. Obtain the current equipment list, marked route and emergency procedure before setting a final training or travel plan. The label 42 km describes a trail category; do not treat it as proof of a certified 42.195 km road course or a guarantee that the next route will have identical distance and climbing.
