An evening marathon on the Veluwe’s forest paths
The organizer’s evening-event overview changes the usual marathon routine. Rehearse meals, travel and a calm afternoon before running, instead of importing a breakfast-and-dawn-start schedule. Starting later does not guarantee cool weather, so use the forecast rather than assuming shade removes the heat load.
The broad forest paths make terrain-specific footwear and steady effort useful preparation. Train on comparable surfaces when available, and let footing and small rises affect pace. A wooded route can feel different from a road-marathon split table even when the distance is the same.
The event permits a cycling companion for the full marathon and 28 km distance. Check the final rules before arranging one: permission for those categories does not automatically extend to every shorter event, every access point or an unrestricted pacing arrangement. Plan passing and contact with other runners considerately.
The organizer uses a shoe-mounted timing chip that is returned afterward. Include fitting and returning it in your checklist, and distinguish optional extras such as the medal or shirt from the entry itself. Confirm the marathon’s exact start and finish limit before relying on daylight for your anticipated finish time.
The evening schedule also affects your return journey. Check the final marathon cutoff against public-transport departures and your accommodation access, including the time needed after finishing to collect belongings.
