The Citadelle, château stops and a real time budget
The Blaye organizer has moved the 2027 marathon from May 8 to May 15 because of national commemorations. The published full-marathon plan starts and finishes at the Citadelle's Porte Royale, with an 08:30 start, approximately 350 metres of climbing and a route through 14 communes and ten châteaux. Use May 15 when arranging travel or counting back training weeks.
The organizer lists a six-hour-thirty-minute limit. Divide your plan into running time and time stopped: a target that already uses the entire allowance while moving leaves no margin for aid or optional château visits. Decide beforehand which stops matter to you and how much time you can spend there, rather than discovering the trade-off near the finish.
Practise maintaining an even effort on rolling roads. The climbing means a single flat-road pace is a poor rule for every kilometre, and pressing uphill to protect a split can make later running less comfortable. Study the current profile and choose a few checkpoints where you can reassess both effort and elapsed time.
The festive tasting opportunities are optional experiences, not a substitute for the familiar food and drink used in your training. Keep your fueling plan separate from sightseeing stops. Also distinguish the full marathon's start from the half marathon and 10K programme when meeting family or arranging transport. Check the final Citadelle access and collection instructions so that enjoying the setting does not leave too little time to reach your own start.
