Magna Carta’s five Thames out-and-backs
The published route is slightly longer than the standard 26.2-mile shorthand, and the organizer allows for GPS variation. Do not infer an exact certification from a watch recording or the event’s marathon label. If a qualifying time is your goal, ask about the current measurement and recognition before entering.
The full-distance sequence is five repetitions of the Old Windsor Lock out-and-back. The half and 10 km use different short loops toward the Runnymede Hotel before their longer sections. Follow your category’s marked turn points and keep a simple lap count instead of copying a runner with a different bib.
The shared Thames paths can involve runners moving in both directions. Leave room when passing and approach turns under control, especially if the surface is wet. Practise on similar riverside terrain and use familiar footwear that suits the forecast and actual path conditions.
The race page also retains a February 2026 winter edition. Its date should not be confused with the April 2027 spring race. Confirm your chosen event in the entry receipt, then check the participant message for collection, parking, aid and the final support limit. A repeated route can simplify access to supplies, but it does not automatically permit personal support anywhere along the towpath. Ask where bags and personal drinks may be left and how to keep the headquarters area clear. The marathon’s 08:30 start is earlier than the half at 09:00 and 10 km at 09:15, so arrange arrival for your own category. Give companions the exact club address and a finish meeting plan rather than only a general Egham location.
