The Wales Marathon is Sunday’s standalone run within Long Course Weekend
This format differs from an uninterrupted triathlon. A full Long Course Weekend entry combines separate events over three days, while a marathon-only runner enters the Sunday race. Choose the entry that matches your intended participation and do not borrow transition, cutoff or qualification rules from IRONMAN Wales.
The course’s countryside and coastal sections call for attention to the actual elevation profile. Review the final map and GPX file, identify sustained climbs and descents, and rehearse effort changes on comparable terrain. The castle turnaround and return toward Tenby are more useful planning references than assuming a flat seaside route.
The half marathon, 10K and 5K also finish in Tenby but can have different start arrangements. Use the full-marathon participant guide to plan collection, arrival and transport. A shared red-carpet finish does not establish a shared start location or time.
If participating in the swim and cycle events as well, account for the accumulated workload when assessing your Sunday goal. A standalone marathon prediction should not be assumed achievable after two demanding days. Follow the event’s complete eligibility and completion rules for the combined challenge, including which distances count toward its additional medal. Spectators should review the current road-closure and parking notices before trying to follow runners through the course. Agree on a meeting point outside the finish flow and check baggage collection arrangements. The organizer’s current page confirms the July 4 marathon date, while the final race pack will establish the detailed timetable, aid stations and course controls. Recheck that pack before departure, use familiar supplies and plan clothing from the race-week forecast. Do not substitute the cycling route or a previous festival schedule for the marathon’s current map and instructions.
