LIWA’s second-half climbs through the Schurwald
The route heads toward the Fils valley and returns through the Kirnbach valley, with Thomashardt’s mosaic water tower as a recurring landmark. After the split from the half marathon, the full route descends toward Reichenbach and climbs again through Baltmannsweiler and Hohengehren before returning along Kaisersträßle.
This second half needs its own effort plan. Avoid treating the return to Thomashardt as the start of an easy final loop, and practise sustained climbing and controlled descents on terrain similar to the official map. A steady effort may produce changing kilometre splits; forcing a flat-road pace can leave too little reserve for the later climbs.
The general route overview gives approximately 650 metres of ascent while the detailed full-marathon page says about 700. Use the latest marathon profile when available and regard the current figures as approximate. The downloadable route also carries an older filename, so check its edition before saving it as the final course.
The 2026 instructions placed the marathon start at the Bürgerzentrum at 09:15 and closed the finish at 16:00. They also limited the field to 150. Those details help identify what needs reconfirmation, but do not establish a future timetable or available place. Before booking, check the new entry page, collection window, full-distance cutoff and aid map. The club’s training-project and away-race announcements may mention 2027 without announcing the next LIWA marathon itself; use the named home event and distance as your reference. Check the marathon continuation at Thomashardt carefully when studying the final route map.
