Primary evidence: the organizing committee date announcement, official race website, Lanzhou's 2026 press-conference report, and World Athletics results.
What is confirmed for 2027—and what is not
The organizing committee has confirmed the event and date. It has not yet published the registration window, entry method, participant eligibility, lottery, payment, final route, start time, pickup, cutoff or transport instructions in the sources reviewed.
That distinction matters: use May 23 for long-range planning, but wait for the organizer before paying, booking around a start venue, or building a course-specific race plan.
What the completed 2026 race tells you
These facts describe May 24, 2026, not the final 2027 edition:
- the first gun was 07:00;
- all runners started at Lanzhou Olympic Sports Center;
- the marathon finished at the Olympic Sports Center;
- the half marathon finished on Nanbinhe East Road;
- the event used the Yellow River scenic corridor and passed city landmarks; and
- the field totalled 33,000: 25,000 marathon and 8,000 half-marathon places.
World Athletics lists Gerba Dibaba as the men's marathon winner in 2:11:52 and Haven Hailu Desse as the women's winner in 2:29:54.
Use the 2026 route to understand the event's recent character—not as proof that the 2027 start, finish, profile or field will be identical.

Before November 22: build the life that can hold the plan
The useful job now is not to peak early. Build a week you can repeat: consistent easy running, basic strength, recovery, and a schedule that survives work, travel and missed days. If pain, illness or another medical constraint affects readiness, use a qualified clinician rather than a race page to decide whether to progress.
From November 22: make the block specific
Move into a marathon-specific runway, practice fueling during long runs, and let the organizer's eventual course and participant guide refine—not replace—the fundamentals. When life interrupts, scale the next decision instead of cramming missed training into a dangerous week.
Start with the marathon training hub, then use the running pace calculator and marathon fueling planner once your recent training supports specific targets.
What to verify before committing money or a race plan
- registration opening and closing dates;
- entry, lottery, eligibility and medical-document rules;
- the final 2027 start, finish and course map;
- start waves, cutoffs, aid and pickup;
- participant transport and road controls; and
- the official race-week forecast.
Use the China marathon directory for nearby alternatives. Once the organizer publishes current instructions, use the Lanzhou race-week checklist and weather-and-gear guide as execution aids rather than sources for an unannounced fact.
