A 10.5 km relay leg and an individual marathon are different entries
The Istanbul Night Marathon organizer describes the coastal circuit around Çayırbaşı, Tarabya and Sarıyer. Its relay format uses four 10.5 km legs for the marathon and two for the half. The July 3, 2027 announcement also adds individual 21 km and 42 km options, so the distance name alone no longer tells you whether you will run one leg or the whole event.
Read your entry confirmation before choosing a training plan. A runner assigned one relay leg needs preparation for that leg and the waiting period before it, while an individual marathon entrant needs endurance for the complete distance. The team's combined result should not be used as evidence that any one member has completed a solo marathon.
For a relay team, make an exchange plan with named runners, the order of legs, and a clear way to communicate if somebody is slower than expected. Check where waiting teammates may stand, how the timing handover works, and how everyone returns after the final runner finishes. Use the 2027 exchange instructions rather than assuming the earlier circuit and staging layout are unchanged.
Rehearse running at the time of day relevant to your start, using a safe route and suitable visibility equipment. Test your meal timing and what you need while waiting, rather than making the race your first late-evening run. Confirm the organizer's actual lighting and equipment rules before deciding what to carry. A coastal route description is useful context, but it does not establish race-night weather or guarantee identical conditions for every relay leg.
