Saltburn’s 28-mile winter trail race and navigation requirements
The distance is longer than a standard road marathon, and the winter trail profile adds another substantial demand. Prepare for uneven ground, sustained climbing and controlled descents rather than using 26.2 miles as your complete effort estimate. Review the final route and checkpoint table together before deciding whether the race fits your preparation.
Marathon runners reaching Trout Hall Lane after the stated gate are directed onto the shorter finishing route. The nine-hour overall limit does not remove that intermediate restriction. Follow the checkpoint team’s instruction and do not continue onto a closed section in an attempt to preserve a full-distance result.
The mandatory equipment includes printed route directions and a printed map as well as a torch for marathon runners. A phone or watch GPX does not replace explicitly required paper documents. Practise using both the downloaded route and the written directions, and check that your copies include the current diversion rather than a previous-edition route.
The organizer also lists waterproof clothing, warm layers, emergency equipment and carried drink. Recheck the complete kit list and any weather updates before packing, and carry the required items throughout the race. Registration is listed for 08:00–08:40 at the school, so allow time for collection and checks before the 09:00 start. The event is cupless and does not provide safety pins; bring the items needed for drinking and attaching your bib. Entries are scheduled to close January 15, 2027, and the stated transfer rules do not permit moving a place to another event or year. Review the current terms and final participant message before relying on a change.
