Additional event notes
Excalibur’s summer marathon and the Moel Famau hills
Excalibur’s organizer lists the next summer marathon for May 9, 2027. The November 1, 2026 winter event offers 17 km and 10 km races instead, so its date does not apply to a full marathon.
The website covers both seasons, and the winter heading appears across several pages. Use the explicitly labelled summer route and date for a marathon entry. The shorter winter GPX and start timetable describe different races, even though the venue and organizer are shared.
The route includes trails, footpaths and substantial hills around Moel Famau and the area’s hillforts. Practise climbing and descending on similar terrain with the required equipment. Keep effort controlled over technical sections, and use the marathon route file rather than the half-marathon map to identify the extra loop.
The FAQ lists a summer-marathon checkpoint at Aifft, around thirteen miles, closing at 14:00 after a 09:00 start. Confirm these times in the 2027 briefing and assess the intermediate deadline as well as the complete distance. If you arrive after the cutoff, follow staff directions back towards the finish instead of continuing around the additional loop.
The organizer requires time for a kit check, so arrival at the car park is not the last step before starting. Allow for collection, equipment inspection and the walk to the briefing. Review the complete current kit list and forecast, and keep the route available on your device. Arrange a clear finish-area meeting place and follow the withdrawal procedure if conditions or progress mean you need to stop. Preload the correct full-marathon GPX before leaving home.
Confirmed race date
Excalibur Marathon: May 9, 2027. Verified on October 14, 2026 against the organizer’s distance-specific information.
Last-known race profile
These details identify the race page; they do not establish the next edition's operations. The previous race date does not establish the next edition. Use the confirmed date above and recheck the final participant instructions before committing to a race-day schedule.
Build toward the confirmed race date
- establish repeatable weekly frequency before event-specific intensity;
- extend easy endurance only when the following week remains recoverable;
- practise fueling, equipment or stations in ordinary training rather than guessing race-day rules;
- keep strength and recovery compatible with the primary sessions; and
- anchor a specific block to the confirmed date only when its opening workload matches your recent training.
With the race date confirmed, use the training start-date calculator and compare the marathon training hub. Calendar arithmetic does not establish training readiness.
What the organizer still needs to confirm
Recheck the exact date, represented distances, registration, venue, start waves, course, cutoff, aid, cancellation terms and participant guide. Use the current race-week forecast for final clothing and pacing decisions.
Prepare for the confirmed edition
The useful work now is the training you can repeat. Start training with 26weeks after choosing a real finish line and a runway that fits current readiness.
