A marathon connecting two cities across the Neisse
The Europamarathon organizer presents the event across Görlitz in Germany and Zgorzelec in Poland, linked across the Neisse. The full marathon is part of a wider programme of distances and relay racing. For June 6, 2027, use the full-distance route and entry details rather than assuming every race follows the same cross-city journey.
The practical planning unit is the two-city course, not just the address of a hotel on one side of the river. Save your start, finish and accommodation locations on an offline map, and check the walking or transport route between them before race morning. If supporters are watching on both sides, choose precise meeting points and agree which side of a crossing each person means. Similar-looking riverfront locations can be surprisingly unhelpful meeting instructions.
On the course, approach any narrow or busy crossing with patience. Maintain your effort through the approach instead of accelerating to overtake immediately before a pinch point, then settle back into rhythm when space opens. Rehearse that change of rhythm in ordinary runs; repeated sharp surges are a poor substitute for a controlled marathon start.
Before travelling, read the current participant information for collection, aid and transport in a language you understand. A general city transport map does not show race-day access restrictions, and a relay exchange instruction does not tell an individual marathon runner where to report. Use the organizer's final map to place fueling reminders and spectator stops, keeping a simple finish-area meeting arrangement as the fallback if crossing the route proves difficult.
