Four laps from Fogarty Park, starting before sunrise
The Cairns marathon page lists a 05:45 start at Fogarty Park on July 11, 2027. The full marathon uses four flat laps, with the Esplanade central to the route. This makes both the early-morning routine and accurate lap counting more useful preparation targets than simply choosing a flat-road time goal.
Rehearse the sequence from waking to running: a familiar breakfast, access to toilets, the journey to the start and a short settling-in period. Confirm how you will reach Fogarty Park before ordinary daytime transport assumptions apply. If walking from accommodation, check the actual route and race-day access rather than assuming the closest point on a map is an open entrance.
Use the current full-marathon map to learn how each lap is counted and where the final finish separation occurs. Four laps does not justify inventing four identical split distances without reading that map. Keep a simple lap tally and agree with supporters which pass they are watching; seeing the finish area early is not a signal to accelerate when another lap remains.
A repeated-route long run can help practise even effort and a reliable fueling rhythm. Plan reminders by elapsed time as well as by familiar landmarks, so that excitement on the first circuit does not postpone eating until the next pass. Make final clothing, hydration and pace decisions from the current forecast and organizer advice. The early start and coastal setting do not establish the conditions you will encounter late in the marathon.
