Additional event notes
Two tunnel passages, canal paths and a two-lap marathon
Bath Marathon follows two laps through the Two Tunnels Greenway, canal paths and the River Avon corridor. The route combines long tunnels with steps, road crossings and sections shared with other users; it is not a continuously closed-road city marathon.
The organizer lists August 15, 2027. Its route description begins on the Two Tunnels Greenway and climbs gently toward Devonshire Tunnel. After Lyncombe Vale, the course enters the much longer Combe Down Tunnel, then reaches Tucking Mill viaduct, steps and the reservoir. Practise settling into a comfortable effort after changes in gradient and footing. GPS pace can become unreliable underground, so avoid accelerating simply to correct a watch reading.
Tucking Mill Lane is open to traffic, with runners instructed to stay left and follow marshals. The approach through Monkton Combe and the Dundas and Canal Company car park also passes other visitors. Later sections use the Somerset Coal Canal, Kennet and Avon Canal, Bathampton, Sydney Gardens and the River Avon. Leave passing space and treat crossings as part of the race, rather than assuming an uninterrupted racing line.
The full marathon repeats the circuit. The organizer distinguishes the first-lap turn at Brickfields from the straight-on finish on lap two. Check that junction on the final map and know your lap count; other distances use parts of the same route. A lap-based fueling reminder is more dependable than following the runner ahead at a shared split.
The event information identifies Brickfields Open Space, BA2 1LX, as the event base, with Odd Down Park and Ride and a Two Tunnels bus as an access option. Oldfield Park station is about 800 m away. The detailed information pack is issued four weeks before the event and start lists during race week. Recheck the actual bus and wave times there before choosing an arrival connection.
Confirmed race date
Bath Marathon: August 15, 2027. Verified on October 14, 2026 against the organizer’s distance-specific information.
Last-known race profile
These details identify the race page; they do not establish the next edition's operations. The previous race date does not establish the next edition. Use the confirmed date above and recheck the final participant instructions before committing to a race-day schedule.
Build toward the confirmed race date
- establish repeatable weekly frequency before event-specific intensity;
- extend easy endurance only when the following week remains recoverable;
- practise fueling, equipment or stations in ordinary training rather than guessing race-day rules;
- keep strength and recovery compatible with the primary sessions; and
- anchor a specific block to the confirmed date only when its opening workload matches your recent training.
With the race date confirmed, use the training start-date calculator and compare the marathon training hub. Calendar arithmetic does not establish training readiness.
What the organizer still needs to confirm
Recheck the exact date, represented distances, registration, venue, start waves, course, cutoff, aid, cancellation terms and participant guide. Use the current race-week forecast for final clothing and pacing decisions.
Prepare for the confirmed edition
The useful work now is the training you can repeat. Start training with 26weeks after choosing a real finish line and a runway that fits current readiness.
