Aspen Backcountry Marathon is suspended
The city’s notice invites organizations interested in sponsoring or operating the event to contact its special-events team. That invitation is not an announced restart, an open registration or a promised annual race window. Wait for an explicit relaunch before treating this marathon as a training deadline.
The same city website advertises Golden Leaf Half Marathon, which runs from Snowmass to Aspen. Its course, September schedule and registration do not replace the suspended backcountry marathon. Likewise, Aspen Valley Marathon has a separate identity; a shared Aspen destination does not establish the same distance, route or organizer.
Older backcountry maps and results describe an event that previously took place. They are not evidence that a marked and supported course is currently available. Do not use an old race route as permission to enter restricted trails or as a guarantee of water, medical assistance or transport.
If you want a mountain-running goal near Aspen, first choose an event with an active organizer announcement, a confirmed distance and a current participant guide. Then compare its actual elevation, terrain and support with your experience. Keep accommodation and flights flexible until the selected race is confirmed; a historical summer pattern is insufficient for a non-refundable race trip. The city’s public suspension notice is the relevant status check even if a commercial calendar still displays an estimated annual month. A future relaunch would need a fresh announcement naming its organizer, date and registration process. Until that appears, neither an old result nor a hotel package confirms that the backcountry event is operating. Choose a separately confirmed event before arranging non-refundable accommodation in Aspen.
