Additional event notes
Roundhay Park and repeated Yorkshire climbs
IRONMAN Leeds is a hilly full-distance race based at Roundhay Park. Its preview uses two swim laps in Waterloo Lake, three main bike loops with repeated Black Hill Road climbs, and an undulating run around Roundhay.
The organizer confirms August 15, 2027. The swim description uses two laps of Waterloo Lake with an in-water turn, followed by a run to the single transition area on Roundhay Park’s cricket pitch. The page gives slightly different transfer distances of 300 m and 350 m; allow for the final layout instead of treating either estimate as exact.
The bike preview heads toward Shadwell before three main loops through areas including Harewood House, Eccup Reservoir and Golden Acre Park. Black Hill Road is the major repeated climb. The published ascent estimate makes this a different preparation problem from a flat full-distance race: choose suitable gearing and practise climbing without exhausting the effort needed later.
The run begins with a climb and an Upper Lake section before four main loops in and around Roundhay. Expect the final discipline to continue asking for effort on rises rather than becoming a flat recovery run. Use your current training capacity to decide whether this course and date are realistic; the event’s demanding profile is not a reason to compress missed preparation.
The current transition uses blue bike and red run bags in the same area. Rehearse the change sequence and locate the correct rack, mount line and dismount line in the final guide. Maps remain subject to change, so recheck the 2027 profile, intermediate cutoffs and aid locations before making a final pacing and nutrition plan.

Training calendar anchors
These dates are calendar arithmetic, not proof that a plan length is appropriate.
Use the training start-date calculator for another runway and compare the IRONMAN training hub. Do not compress missed weeks to force the calendar.
Check the final participant instructions
- Match the exact represented distance to its start day and wave.
- Recheck course surface, elevation, turns and cutoff before prescribing race-specific sessions.
- Rehearse fueling, equipment and transitions where relevant; do not introduce them on race day.
- Confirm transport, check-in and cancellation terms before non-refundable travel.
- Use current weather and organizer alerts instead of historical averages.
Turn the date into a plan you can absorb
Start from recent consistency and recovery, not only the number of weeks available. Start training with 26weeks when you want the near-term schedule to respond to completed work, recovery and real-life changes.
