Training plan
The useful answer
The Williams Route 66 Marathon is Sunday, November 22, 2026, with an official 8:00 a.m. start. The organizer describes a USATF-certified, Boston-qualifying route through downtown Tulsa, neighborhoods and the University of Tulsa. It lists 6.5 hours of course support and electronic timing through 7.5 hours.
On July 20, the 18-week start date has just passed and 16 weeks begins August 2. Choose by current consistency, not by the plan label you want.
Start-date decision table
| Plan | Start by | Honest fit on July 20 |
|---|---|---|
| 18 weeks | July 19 | Use only if you already have the expected base; do not cram week one |
| 16 weeks | August 2 | Viable for a consistent athlete with durable long runs |
| 14 weeks | August 16 | A compressed option, not a beginner shortcut |
If you are rebuilding after time off, use the next safe finish line rather than forcing November mileage. Consistency now is more valuable than an aggressive catch-up week.
Course-specific preparation
- Practise even effort through urban turns and neighborhood rollers instead of chasing every mile split.
- Rehearse an 8:00 a.m. breakfast and warm-up schedule.
- Include long-run fueling under realistic duration, not only short workouts.
- Use the 6.5-hour support window when building a conservative race-day plan.
Four-part weekly hierarchy
- One gradually extended long run.
- One controlled quality session appropriate to the current phase.
- Easy running that supports, rather than competes with, those sessions.
- Simple strength and recovery you can repeat without compromising key runs.
Race-week unknowns
The official 2026 participant guide was still pending when this page was verified. The November 20–21 expo dates are published, but final transport, corrals, aid and course-operation details must come from the current guide.
